Why agency growth usually stalls

Three bottlenecks I see in almost every agency I work with.If one of them makes you think “Yep, that’s me,” you’re in the right place.

You don’t have consistent demand.

Every agency wants a reliable flow of new business. But building and managing a proper lead generation system rarely makes it to the top of the list.

There’s always a client deadline, a campaign to fix, or a team to manage. So new business gets left to referrals, word of mouth and chance instead of something you can rely on.

The result?

Your pipeline is full one month and looking very different the next.

You can’t fulfill more demand.

Getting more clients should be a good thing.

But when every new account means more writing, more campaign management, more meetings and more delivery, growth quickly starts putting pressure on the team.

Deadlines get tighter. Quality becomes harder to maintain. Taking on more work begins to feel like taking on more stress.

Your operations are mostly manual.

  • Onboarding.
  • Reporting.
  • Handovers.
  • Content workflows.
  • Repetitive admin.

None of these tasks feels like a major problem by itself.

But together, week after week, they quietly consume the time you could be spending on strategy, clients or growing the agency.

Most agencies only need one thing fixed first.

Whether growth is stuck on demand, on delivery, or on the admin in between, the work falls into one of three shapes. Start with whichever one you recognised above. The others can wait.

FAQs: The questions I typically get asked

Do you work with internal marketing teams?

Yes. I work directly with internal marketing teams as well as marketing agencies and founders.

For internal teams, I can plug into your existing marketing operation, whether you need help turning subject-matter expertise into content, building a more consistent content engine, creating growth infrastructure, or removing repetitive work through automation.

What happens when we start working together?

We start with the problem, not a predefined package.

I’ll look at what you’re trying to achieve, what’s currently getting in the way, and what you’ve already tried. From there, I’ll recommend what I think would create the most leverage, whether that’s content, a growth system, automation, or a combination of them.

Do you write the content yourself?

Yes. When writing is part of the engagement, I personally handle the strategy, research, and writing.

I don’t hand your project off to a content mill or a junior writer. For thought leadership in particular, my goal is always to preserve your expertise and point of view while making the ideas clearer, sharper, and more useful to the audience.

How do you work with our existing marketing or content team?

I can work alongside your team. Our collaboration heavily depends on what’s already working and where the bottleneck is. I can own a specific part of the process, work within your existing workflows, or build the systems and processes your team can take over.

How do you measure whether the work is actually working?

It depends on what we’re trying to improve. If the goal is pipeline, then I’m considering qualified conversations, opportunities, or other relevant acquisition metrics.

If the goal is thought leadership, we might look at the right audience reaching and engaging with the content, inbound conversations, sales opportunities influenced by content, or other indicators of growing authority.

If the goal is automation or operations; time saved, processes automated, errors reduced, or additional capacity created become the goal.

Do you build the automation, or just recommend what to use?

I build it.

When automation is part of the engagement, I personally handle the strategy, setup, implementation, and documentation. First I look at the process, identify where the friction is, and determine whether automation is actually the right solution.

If the underlying process is broken, I’ll tell you that before I start building anything.

Can we start with a specific project rather than a long-term engagement?

Yes. Not every problem needs a retainer. Some engagements make more sense as a focused project. If there’s a larger opportunity after the initial project, we can discuss what ongoing support would look like. Otherwise, you get the system, content, or solution you originally came for.

Bring me your messiest bottleneck

You talk, I listen and recommend a solution. Yes, I’d also tell you straight if I’m not the right fit.
